Public School Partnerships (PSP @ TLC) is looking for someone to provide fun, interactive ASL lessons with a 5 year old child, to support visual language acquisition.Two one-hour sessions per week in Canton, MA at 1:00 or 2:00 pm (Monday through Thursday; days are decided by the Specialist). Services follow the school calendar.
Requirements: ---ASL fluency and early childhood experience with Deaf children (teacher licensure is not required). ---Must be able to independently create/implement age-appropriate lessons, and document progress.

POSITION SUMMARY:Provide ASL instruction to early childhood students.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach American Sign Language to early childhood-aged children (preK-2nd grade).
  • Assess communication skills and prepare age appropriate lessons to support classroom content through ASL (e.g., theme related vocabulary and concepts).
  • Provide individual and small group support for students in the areas of ASL language development through imaginative play, games and structured arts and crafts activities.
  • Participate as a member of each student's educational TEAM to provide progress update with data.
  • Communication among PSP staff, the program director and school districts must be consistent and accurate. The program director must be copied on significant emails to school districts. The program director must also know when staff are going to various districts once schedules are established.

    Requirements

    • Prior experience working with early intervention, parent-infant, or preschool students required
    • Native, or near-native ASL fluency in American Sign Language required
    • Prior experience teaching ASL to early childhood Deaf L1 students and/or L2 learners
    • Ability to work effectively as part of an educational team
    • Ability to accept and constructively use feedback and suggestions regarding job responsibilities and performance
    • Preferred: certification in early intervention or Master's Degree in Deaf Education or related field
