Job overview Sanofi's Investigative Toxicology group is looking to hire a motivated and enthusiastic scientist interested in performing hypothesis-driven research to uncover the mechanisms that lead to unexpected toxicity of therapeutic modalities by using a combination of independent scientific literature analysis and wet lab studies. As such, the scientist needs to be proactive, a self-starter, and must have experience working with primary mammalian cell cultures or physiologically relevant advanced 3D assays to implement fit-for-purpose in vitro cellular models for safety assessment studies. By working with a cross-functional team of pathologists, DMPK scientists, medicinal chemists, and project safety representatives, the incumbent will help deconvolute toxic liabilities to enable advancement of compound for discovery and development programs. The successful candidate must have good collaborative skills to smoothly work with Sanofi colleagues across sites and with external vendors, a high level of scientific rigor in their work, and exemplary communication skills to excel in Sanofi's matrix environment. This position will be extremely rewarding as it will allow the candidate to push the boundaries of science while simultaneously help bring innovative and safe medicines to the patients. Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize fit-for-purpose in vitro cellular models, including providing technical expertise, design and execute qualification plans, and establish relevant endpoint assays to dissect the molecular mechanisms of toxicity.
  • Independently review literature to generate hypotheses for experimental testing. - Design and execute relevant experiments to test hypotheses, including data analysis and its interpretation.
  • Assist in the development of de-risking strategies for various organ systems related to liver, kidney, vascular, and/or immune system.
  • Identification and development of translative biomarkers.
  • Supervise and mentor the lab's technical staff, as needed.
  • Collaborate with external vendors on technology and assay evaluation, where appropriate.
  • Work with project teams to address and investigate safety mechanisms and help projects meet their development timelines.
  • Author investigative reports to support inclusion of results in regulatory submissions as needed.
  • Represent Sanofi on external consortia and serve as the SME. Requirements & Qualifications
    • PhD in toxicology, pharmacology, immunology, cellular biology, or equivalent biological field with at least 3 years of relevant research experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting or a Master's degree with at least 5 years of experience.
    • Proven experience and expertise in mammalian cell culture (primary, iPSC), imaging (high content, confocal), molecular biology (RNA, DNA, protein) endpoints, and biochemical endpoints (ELISAs, Luminex/MSD) is a must.
    • Proven record of scientific contribution in peer-reviewed journals and invited talks.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - - -
    • Experience in liver biology, in vitro culture of hepatocytes and Kupffer cells, is a plus.
    • Working knowledge of microphysiological system/organ-on-a-chip, 3D models, or complex in vitro systems will also be a significant advantage. Terms of employment
