What you'll be doing: -

This is an amazing opportunity to be part of the team that is defining how businesses, schools and healthcare providers all over the United States setup their space, buy and install furniture. -

The Category Merchant is responsible for creating, defining, and then executing the growth strategy that will drive specific Office Furniture categories beyond their sales and margin goals. - This strategy is inclusive of the customer, vendors, brands, products, inventory, distribution, pricing, and marketing. - This strategy also defines how we will use our private label brands (Union & Scale, Tru Red, Staples, etc.), their specific role per customer and then the actual products working alongside design, product management and development to guide new ideas through product creation and launch. -

Everyday responsibilities are focused on where we service homes and small business and our business-to-business platform, Staples Advantage where we service larger scale business, healthcare providers and education. - This position will collaborate with a Retail Store Merchant as a large percent of in store orders are delivered directly to the customer's home or office. -

The Category Merchant has 1 direct report (Merchandising Specialist).

Develop deep understanding of customer needs and shopping behaviors
Define then accelerate emerging trends driving an immediate return to the office and how office space will be used in the future
Responsible for selecting vendors, brands and products to be sold
Showcase strategy and assortment during annual Line Review Meeting
Develop and execute a business plan to surpass budgeted sales and margin growth
Develop logistics strategy and execute with Inventory Team
Develop promotional and price strategy and execute with Pricing Team.
Develop marketing plan and execute with Marketing Team.
Develop strategy to improve shopping experience (i.e. website) and execute with Digital Team.
Develop execution plans for Staples Business Advantage Inside and Outside Sales Teams.
With leadership support, negotiate for lower net costs through volume incentives, rebates, advertising or promotional price support. -
Exposure to senior leaders across the organization

What you bring to the table:

Proven ability to drive sales and margin results
Multiple category experience including large P&L management is preferred
Expertise in site metrics, such as visits, conversion, AOV, frequency, engagement
Exceptional time management, prioritization and organizational skills
Demonstrated in-depth proficiency in financial acumen and analysis
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to influence at multiple levels
Proactive communications; comfortable with assessing the need for immediate action
Deep understanding of tactics to drive eCommerce sales
Understanding of tactics to drive human sales force
Demonstrated ability to build strategic partnerships (internal and external)
Accomplished in holding a team accountable to achieve measurable results
PC literate with the strong abilities in Excel

Qualifications : What's needed- Basic Qualifications

6 years total experience in buying related functions (buying/ merchandising)

Bachelor's Degree
