Established as a grassroots organization in 1975 by a committed
group of community activists, business owners, educators, artists
and art-enthusiasts, the Danforth is a museum and studio art school
that invites you to see, learn about, create, and be inspired by
art. The Danforth educates the public through its Permanent
Collection of American Art from the 19th century to the present
day, changing exhibitions of contemporary artists, studio art
classes and workshops, and a variety of community outreach
The Danforth Art School at Framingham State University provides
high quality art instruction to all ages year round. Along with the
Danforth Art Museum, we enjoy serving as in important cultural
resource for the metro west community. Our faculty are highly
qualified instructors as well as successful artists, and our
studios are large, sunny and welcoming. Summer Arts is a busy and
vibrant program serving hundreds of children from Grades K-12 over
the course of nine weeks each summer.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Summer Arts Assistant
Note: there are two openings for this position
- Help to supervise children during transitions, breaks and
- Provide some assistance as needed with clerical duties
- Promote a sense of community and enthusiasm with student body
and promote a studio culture that fosters a love of learning

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as counselor for morning extended day period Monday-
Friday from 7:30 am- 9 am. This involves welcoming up to 12
children of varying ages, and providing supervision and sedentary
activities from 8-9 am each morning.
- Assist with morning drop off procedures including welcoming
students, greeting parents, assisting with general operations
related to morning transitions into studios.
- Support studio assistants, instructors and staff as needed with
finding required art supplies, displaying student artwork, set up
and clean up in studios and other related tasks
- Participate in museum visits with instructors and classes as
needed to help supervise children
- Work with Program Coordinator to conduct preparations for
Creative Challenge Period
- A resume of past work or volunteer experiences.
- Experience as a babysitter and/or in a camp or children's
- Excellent written and oral communication skils.
- Experience with art-making/ art materials.
This is a part-time non-benefited, contract position, not to
exceed 18 hours per week. The scheduled hours are 8 am- 11:30 am
M-F from June 21- Aug 20. There is some flexibility with hours and
days of the week. The pay rate is $13.50 per hour.
