Who You Are:

You are a dynamic and collaborative IACUC Specialist, entitled to implement Sanofi Code of Ethics and Global Policy on the Protection of Animals, paying attention to details, interested in team work to apply best practices and ready to challenge the status quo in how animal welfare compliance is being operated in the R&D US perimeter and beyond.

You have a keen eye for improvement opportunities and the demonstrated ability to deliver on these opportunities using your professional judgment, your networks (counterparts from other hubs, other TIM-US colleagues, R&D US in vivo users and relying on most relevant tools (collaborative tools).

The Team:

TIM (Translational In vivo Models) Research Platform is the unique Sanofi R&D entity entirely focused on providing quality in vivo resources to support Sanofi R&D portfolio. GC&P (Global Compliance and Policy) is the TIM department assuring full compliance with animal protection regulations and standards for all uses of animals, at Sanofi R&D sites as well as for externalized studies and for animal supply. Our team equally monitors, assesses and addresses all sorts of external threats on the supply and use of animals for scientific purposes.

We serve our scientific colleagues, driving them in the complex regulatory environment, protect Sanofi image and reputation and promote best practices while supporting R&D portfolio progression.

Job Highlights:

The IACUC Specialist manages and coordinates of the activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUC) in the Sanofi US R&D perimeter.

  • Reports to Head of Global Compliance and Policy department and collaborates actively with other TIM entities colleagues, in vivo scientists, IACUC Chair, Attending Veterinarian and Institutional Official.

  • Pre-review of protocols, amendments and policies, requiring decision making on regulatory category, assignment of animal welfare impact, and initiation, writing and editing of company policy statements

  • Assignment of review to committee members, including scientists and veterinarians, with tracking and monitoring of approval process

  • Coordinates and follows up on inspections of animal care and animal use areas, requiring interactions with, instruction of and assignment of tasks to scientists, HSE, veterinary and animal care staff

  • Protocol and policy congruency reviews between company, state and federal regulations

  • Coordination of semi-annual review process, writing and documentation of report to institutional official, which is reviewed by outside regulatory agencies

  • Training of the investigative and animal program staff in policies, procedures and regulatory requirements for their participation in the legally constituted animal care and use committee

  • Management of the electronic protocol system, including coordination with global users, global IT support team, and outside contractor to modify and refine the database

  • Documentation of IACUC activities, including retrieval of reports and activity records for regulatory inspections

  • Liaison with local, state and federal regulatory agencies; produce and maintain documentation of animal care and use protocols and reports; represent the company with USDA, DEA, and Cambridge Commissioner

  • Participates in maintenance of AAALAC accreditation, writing IACUC and other sections and appendices for the 3-year program description, communicating with AAALAC office for annual reports and other updates on an ad hoc basis;

  • Coordination and harmonization of global compliance activities as US representative providing regulatory guidance and support for activities

  • Participation in animal facility management team, assessing and addressing impact of regulatory changes to activities, documentation and compliance activities, team decision making on protocol, procedure or facility changes.

  • Coordinates and participates in global initiatives to increase awareness on animal care and use (BRAD) and to support GC&P role, vision and mission (sharepoint development and maintenance, back-up to colleagues for specific tasks)

  • Actively participate in Global Compliance & Policy activities and work with colleagues to manage and support existing processes, strengthen, streamline and simplify procedures and tools.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 1-3 years of IACUC regulatory experience or related experience in biomedical research.

  • Must be proficient in use of common word-processing such as the Microsoft Office suite and Excel.

  • Experience with electronic protocol management software packages.

  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to the use of animals used in research.

  • Must have permanent US work authorization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in performing a variety of techniques with a variety of laboratory animal species and basic knowledge of issues pertaining to the use and care of animals in research, testing, and instruction.

  • Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA), AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification, or certification eligible, or certified veterinary technician (CVT), is preferred.

  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and management skills with proficient use of computers especially Microsoft Office. Must have strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork, leadership, motivational, and negotiating skills, professional demeanor, customer service orientation, and diplomacy. Ability to manage by influence critical.

  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills including priority setting, time management, planning and follow-up, and attention to detail. Strong educational skills, including individual training, program development, presentation, and demonstration skills; and ability to engage an audience, raise consciousness, inspire compliance, and overcome language, cultural, and attitude barriers.

  • Must possess the ability to communicate with all levels of faculty and staff in an accurate, concise, helpful and customer service-oriented manner.

  • Must be able to follow the guidelines, policies and procedures, and to facilitate compliance of others with these rules. Must be able to learn new task and functions quickly, accurately and efficiently as new projects arise. Must be capable of functioning independently with minimal supervision.

  • May include travel between Framingham and Cambridge.

The position evolves in a changing regulatory and working environment. Ability to understand and address the challenges imposed on Sanofi standards and practices is key, as well as continued education to learn and promote best practices. Travels shall be anticipated for conferences, training and opportunities to learn from other programs.
