We currently have an opening for a Director of our Northeast Operations to join Sequence, Inc. on a full-time basis (salaried with benefits) with primary focus being in the Greater Boston area.  Candidates will need direct experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry at a Director or equivalent level.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsible for services in the following disciplines:


Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation

Quality & Compliance

Software Data Management/Analysis

Oversee Business Operations including:

P&L for all regional business units

Growth Strategy for region

Service Group Management

Sequence Employee Engagement/Team Building

Client Engagement

Performance Management with respect to Service Delivery

Business Development Support

Proposal Development/Support

Build relationships with existing and prospective clients

Partner with BD/Sales & Marketing group to perform Business Development tasks to ensure Sequence is in the best position possible to secure projects in alignment with core compentencies

Partner with People & Culture (P&C) to identify, interview, and hire talent in alignment with company core values (AAI - Attitude, Aptitude, and Initiative)

Support Proposal Development in response to RFPs to demonstrate capability of project teams, highlight experience, and estimate costs related to scope for all service offerings

Essential Experience & Accountabilities:

Experience in Leadership, Management, and Accountability (LMA)

Schedules meetings with stated objectives/agenda and at the correct frequency to maintain meeting pulse in alignment with company goals/objectives

Meets with BU Managers, Regional Managers and/or direct employees in a 1:1 capacity quarterly (at a minimum) to gain feedback on what could be improved, issues they may have with completing their job function, suggestions on how to overcome obstacles and/or issues and employee development based on training matrix

Listens to pain points of managers, team leads and / or direct employees in effort to assist resources and maintain focus on providing the highest level of services. Issues are brought to L10 meetings to determine solutions.

Manages/administers annual review process including gathering 360 feedback from clients and employees as necessary to provide accurate constructive feedback to managers

Experience in Operations P&L

Maintains compensation profiles for all applicable business units to ensure after merit increases, bonuses, and incentives the desired margin of the group ? defined target

Forecasts to determine resources required (hiring targets) to facilitate company targets for revenue and margin

Manages budget to ensure P&L is within expected targets for company objectives

Participates in budget planning (forecasts, expenses, growth goals, etc.) prior to end of fiscal year

Provides financial results to each BU Manager on a monthly basis, determines areas of improvement, and recognizes/celebrates successes

Experience in  Request for Proposal Support

Drafts and/or assists with drafting of proposals based on scope of work received from clients/customers, while ensuring adequate bill/labor rates (for T&M or Fixed bid) are utilized to achieve desired margins (indicated in the Margin Calculator)

Attends RFP planning meetings to determine strategy for completing proposals in a timely fashion

Provides information to be included as part of RFI/RFQ process for new project opportunities.

Provides input during RFP covering the following: resource ramp plans, list of deliverables, value-added proposition, project strategies, expenses based on location, integrated project schedules, etc. as required.

Experience in  Business Development Support

Visits at least 5 client sites per month to meet with key decision makers and discipline stake holders to gather foresight on potential future opportunities

Attends BD meetings on a regular basis (weekly)

Attends events planned by BD for clients such as lunches, dinners, effort to build relationships and provide exposure to cross-functional services

Prepares project case studies and project profiles to use as leverage for team proficiency, experience, and value proposition as required

Presents at Industry events or webinars to provide insight and gain exposure for technical knowledge and capabilities of resources

Experience in  Client Engagement

Assists BU Managers and Regional Managers with oversight of projects to ensure client managers are informed when funds (for T&M and fixed bid projects) are within 20% of being depleted.

Supports project creation in OpenAir

Reviews project invoices to ensure proper billing with respect to service hours, expenses, bill rates, and correct POs

Assists BU Managers and Regional Managers project budgets as applicable

Develops relationships with stakeholders and proactively seeks intel about potential future opportunities

Attends Sequence/Client Stakeholder meetings to discuss project status, team feedback, budget planning, etc. at a frequency determined by the client

Experience in  Strategic Resource Planning

Maintains communication with TA to ensure resources required to achieve project scope within specified project timeframe are proactively or reactively sourced (as necessary).

Assists BU Managers and Regional Managers with reviewing resumes provided from recruiters and interviews qualified candidates to facilitate growth targets each year and provide written or verbal feedback summarizing the interview (helps TA refine search process).

Assists BU Managers and Regional Managers with maintaining resource planning/allocation tool to serve as inputs for financial forecasting, recruiting needs, and BD priority

Assists BU Managers and Regional Managers to actively seeks opportunities and assigns projects based on employee's desired priority (location, type of project, goals, etc.)

Collaborates with BU Managers and Regional Managers (if applicable) to determine key resource placement strategy to enhance opportunities at existing or new client sites to facilitate yearly growth goals


A Bachelors or higher degree from an ABET accredited university in Life Sciences, Engineering, Business or similar degree OR a minimum of 10 years of experience wihin the pharmaceutical/biotech industry as it relates to engineering or quality & compliance services in addition to a minimum of 3 years at a Director level within industry
