Job Description:
Job Description Summary We are seeking a strategic, CPMSM -
certified leader to oversee Medical Staff Services within South
Shore Health. This is not a transactional credentialing role - it
is a high-impact leadership position partnering directly with the
CMO to ensure regulatory integrity. The Director serves as a
subject matter expert in medical staff affairs, while leading a
high-performing Medical Staff Office team. Mainly onsite, hybrid
option. The Director, Medical Staff Affairs, provides direction and
oversight of the Medical Staff and Allied Health Staff of the
organization. Areas of responsibility are under strict regulatory
guidelines and requirements which require consistent monitoring for
compliance and minimization of risk. Requires coordination of
activities with other departments throughout the organization.
Routinely interfaces with Medical Staff leadership, physicians,
legal counsel, organization and hospital administration, hospital
IS, regulatory agencies and internal and external healthcare
entities. High degree of personal interaction with customers.
Ensures continued growth and development. Establish timelines for
each process working with internal staff. Monitors progress,
communicates changes, and ensures timeliness and adherence to
budget guidelines. Manages project team activities. Responsible for
continuous and ongoing research to maintain current and or develop
innovative processes through software and internet tools to assure
continuous growth of the department. Provides oversite for the
credentials operations consisting of the approval of over 1400
medical staff members in compliance with state, federal, Joint
Commission and Organizational requirements, adhering to the
organization's policies and applicable laws. Develops Medical Staff
Policies working with Medical and Administrative Leadership.
Develops, coordinates and carries out the orientation for
approximately 200 physicians and APCs per year in compliance with
organizational and Joint Commission requirements. Interview, hires,
and trains employees; planning, assigning, and directing work;
appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees;
addressing complaints and resolving problems. Work closely with
Medical Staff leadership in establishing processes; managing
Medical Staff Issues in collaboration with both MS and
administrative leadership, and legal counsel to determine best
practice and guide the medical staff through the appropriate bylaws
process for both clinical and behavioral issues of the medical
staff. Participate in Bylaws committee, Credentials Committee and
Medical Executive Committee. Responsible for maintaining compliance
of all processes related to the credentialing and education of the
system’s practitioners in the processes named above. Job

GME Oversees departmental operations for Medical Staff Services
Malpractice, HR Recruitment, Provider Onboarding, CME, Medical
Library, GME Provides oversight and direct/indirect supervision of
personnel for Medical Staff Services, Provider Onboarding, CME,
Medical Library, GME and other medical staff functions for employed
& contingent workers. In collaboration with Medical Staff Services,
Provider Enrollment, Malpractice, HR Recruitment, Provider
Onboarding, CME, Medical Library, GME identifies, represents, and
seeks solutions to the positions and concerns of the Medical Staff;
facilitates processes that promote the physician's medical
processes and hospital administration through problem
identification and resolution. Partners with other SSH departments
to ensure principles of process improvement are utilized within the
Medical Staff organization. Works collaboratively with other SSH
departments related to design & implementation of software and
various integration projects Coaches & Mentors staff Identifies
roles and responsibilities within Medical Staff Services, Provider
Onboarding, CME, Medical Library, GME, document job descriptions in
collaboration with HR Directs personnel actions including
recruiting, new hire actions, interviewing and selection of new
staff, salary determinations, training, and personnel evaluations.
Develops work goals and objectives for the department in accordance
and alignment with company goals; provides leadership, measures,
feedback, and motivation for staff achievement of departmental
goals. Directs teams to ensure seamless transfers/hand-offs between
the Medical Staff Affairs departments for delivery of services to
all providers. Provides feedback to Executive Staff as it relates
to observed issues with staff, customer concerns, volume of work.
Oversees the data integrity, workflows, reports and functionality
of credentialing and provider enrollment software applications
Establishes standards for turnaround time and monitors performance
relative to those standards Works with MSSD to ensure credentialing
and provider enrollment database are accurate and available for
other systems to utilize as their source of truth Collaborate with
site operations to ensure effective onboarding of new providers
with goal of creating best-in-market retention rates after
successful hires Develops and ensures metrics, goals, and projects
are documented, executed, tracked and accomplished Works with all
departments facilitating standardization of SSH processes related
to provider onboarding; performance improvement/workflow
efficiencies Establishes standards for turnaround time and monitors
performance relative to those standards Develops/oversees the
department budgets in conjunction with organization goals and
objectives for SSH Medical Staff Services, Library, CME, as well as
oversite of the Medical Staff Fund and its uses. Serves on System
Committees as requested/needed Job Requirements: Minimum Education
- Preferred Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum Work Experience Healthcare Operations experience and work
with providers on all levels Leadership and organizational
management Required Certifications: Certified by the National
Association of Medical Staff Services as CPSMSM or CPCS working
toward CPMSM Required additional Knowledge and Abilities: Leader in
re-engineering complex health care workflow and systems Operational
