an Intelligent Transportation System/Traffic Engineer to join our
New England transportation team in the Boston office. The
ITS/Traffic Engineer will play a key role in supporting the
delivery of transportation projects focused on improving safety and
operations throughout the New England region and beyond. You will
work as part of a collaborative team with senior program managers,
project managers, and engineers to deliver projects for a range of
clients. This role is in the Global Mobility Business Area. We
partner with our clients across the globe to design thriving and
connected cities and communities that enable opportunity for all
and keep the world moving. Climate change, urbanization, and
digitization trends are requiring today’s mobility projects and
systems to address an evolving set of demands from the world’s
growing population. We design connected, sustainable solutions that
integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and
optimize the mobility of people and goods. Role accountabilities:
Work on transportation projects that include Intelligent
Transportation System (ITS), Transportation Systems Management and
Operations (TSMO), and traffic engineering with a focus on
improving safety and operations. Work independently with
appropriate senior review, while providing technical guidance to
junior engineers as needed. Coordinate with subject matter
experts—including survey, roadway design, and environmental
disciplines—to support project objectives. Support project delivery
by planning and overseeing small assignments or discrete components
of larger projects, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget
objectives are met. Prepare transportation engineering plans, ITS
designs, systems engineering, and traffic engineering plans,
including signal designs, signing and marking designs, and
conceptual designs for intersections. Develop and maintain an
understanding of Arcadis’ services, client businesses, and the
transportation industry to increase personal and company
credibility in the sector. Undertake training and guidance to
increase knowledge in areas of technical proficiency. Key Skills:
Strong understanding of traffic operations principles and
regulatory frameworks, including US DOT, ITE, MUTCD, AASHTO, and
New England state DOT requirements, policies, and standards. Direct
experience with ITS and TSMO project delivery, including
operational practices, technical documentation, and client
engagement. Understanding of the use of traffic analysis and
modeling tools including VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, and HCS.
Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams, coordinating
with subject matter experts (e.g., roadway design, environmental,
survey) to deliver integrated transportation solutions.
Qualifications & Experience: Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s
degree or equivalent in Civil or Electrical Engineering or a
related field. Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification and
actively working towards Professional Engineer (PE) Certification.
4 or more years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in
transportation or traffic engineering. Experience in operational
and/or safety analysis. Excellent communication, time management,
and problem-solving skills. U.S. Driver’s License required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with signal, ITS, and/or
signing and marking design. Experience with public sector clients

The salary range for this position is $78,415 - $129,385. Actual
salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as
experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and
