Research and Engineering Intern - Advanced Data Platform Location: Framingham, MA Req #: 10979 # of Openings: 1 Description We have multiple internship positions for building an open source advanced data platform targeting big data workloads. The platform is focused on bridging the gap between existing data processing engines and storage systems and enables them to operate in a concerted fashion to substantially improve application performance, resource utilization, and application developer productivity. In particular, the platform features innovative near-data processing capabilities that offload part of data processing from a data processing engine to a storage system, as well as semantic caching techniques that intelligently caches data and metadata on the data processing side, by leveraging semantic information on the executed workload and stored content. The internship may last between three and six months. As a software engineering intern, you will work closely with a team of experts and be involved in the entire life cycle of high-quality and agile software development of the advanced data platform. You will be exposed to the latest development in big data and storage. You will have a unique opportunity to apply your creative thinking skills to real-world problems and make concrete impact in an exciting and rapidly evolving area. Responsibilities:

• Participate in the full cycle of software development
• Follow software engineering best practices such as agile and DevOps
• Design and conduct experiments to measure software effectiveness and performance
• Optimize algorithms for scalability and performance
• Author documents, papers and patents as appropriate Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in an MS or PhD program in Computer Science, Information technology, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in developing software system
  • 2+ years of experience programming in Java or C++
  • Mastery of concepts and technologies related to distributed systems and big data
  • Work authorization in the US
